United States Marshal Joseph R. Guccione to Join FGIS

New York, NY - July 25, 2013 - Freeh Group International Solutions, LLC (FGIS) is pleased to announce that the Honorable Joseph R. Guccione, the former United States Marshal for the Southern District of New York, will join the firm as a Managing Director in the firm’s New York office.

In his 22 years of service with the United States Marshals Service, Marshal Guccione is one of the longest-serving Marshals in the 224-year history of the Southern District, and one of the only Marshals for the Southern District who rose through the ranks to attain its highest position. Marshal Guccione was appointed by President George W. Bush in November, 2002 and served as Marshal for over a decade under four Attorneys General during both Republican and Democrat administrations.

As the most prominent and far-reaching District Office of the Marshals Service, the Southern District is involved in the most sophisticated, complex criminal and civil cases involving international and domestic terrorism, financial crimes, violent and organized crime, major fugitives, forfeitures and seizures. The District has direct responsibility for the safety of more than 100 judges and 1,500 employees, multiple courthouses and other federal facilities, and the security for major international terrorism and criminal trials.

Marshal Guccione has conducted numerous high-profile investigations in both criminal and civil cases, supervised a complement of 350 criminal investigators and court security officers, and directed all investigative, protective and administrative activities of the District. He led a highly effective fugitive enforcement program which was responsible for apprehending over 1,700 violent felony fugitives last year and successfully extraditing over 100 defendants arrested overseas and brought to justice in the Southern District of New York. Under Marshal Guccione’s leadership, the District consistently led the country in seized and managed assets, surpassing $3 billion in ill-gotten gains recovered and receiving national recognition as a model program.

Marshal Guccione is an internationally-recognized law enforcement leader, with particular expertise in risk analysis and mitigation, threat intelligence, planning for high-security activities, and implementation of personal and infrastructure protection. From 2008 to 2012, he served as the Deputy Principal Federal Coordinator and Representative of the Secretary of Homeland Security for the annual United Nations General Assembly, partnering with the United States Secret Service to execute the security plan for over 120 diplomats and visiting heads of state at numerous venues. He has presided over multiple task forces involving federal, state, and local law enforcement, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation; United States Secret Service; Drug Enforcement Administration; Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; and the New York Police Department, among others. He has participated as a principal in special security events and other dignitary protection details as well as anti-terrorism and anti-crime operations in New York City.

Marshal Guccione has established personal and professional relationships and liaison with numerous foreign law enforcement and security services, as well as with Chief Security Officers for many global corporations and financial institutions.
